2018 and Psalm 118: A New Beginning

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

(Psalm 118:8)

The Psalms, which are in the 19th book of the Bible, have a prophetic significance dealing with Israel for each year in the 1900s, carrying over into the 2000s. For example, Psalm 17 points to 1917, Psalm 67 points to 1967, and so on.

Biblical scholars like J.R. Church have found that many of the key events for the Jewish people and for Israel are accurately reflected by the corresponding chapter (year) in the Psalms. As you study the Psalms, please keep in mind that the Jewish years starts somewhere in our month of either March or April, so there is an overlap. This is why a few of the Psalms may seem to reference events form the previous year, of the Gregorian calendar.

Hallel (Hebrew: הלל‎‎, “Praise”) is a Jewish prayer, a verbatim recitation from Psalms 113-118, which is used for praise and thanksgiving that is recited by observant Jews on Jewish holidays. It is called “The Egyptian Hallel,” because it was chanted in the temple while the Passover lambs were being slain. It was chanted also on other festival occasions, as at Pentecost, and the feast of Tabernacles. These are the three most important feasts in the Jewish faith.

During the Jewish Passover meal of the first century, Psalms 113-114 were sung before the final meal blessing and Psalms 115-118 were sung after the final blessing. These were most probably the hymns that Jesus and his disciples sang in the context of their Passover (cf. Matthew 26:30; Mark 14:26). The theology of these songs is directly related to the theology of both the Passover and the Lord’s Supper.

These chapters are expressions of joy and faith in God, and of gratitude for salvation from their enemies. They were incorporated into the Book of Psalms by King David, and they were singled out for inclusion in Hallel because they contain the following fundamental themes of the faith of Judaism:

  • the Exodus
  • the Giving of the Law by God at Sinai
  • the future Resurrection of the Dead
  • the Coming of the Messiah

Psalm 118 is a beautiful Psalm of praise and this Psalm would correlate to 2018, seventy years after Israel’s rebirth and a harbinger of the last 7 years.

Psalm 118 is placed in between the shortest and the longest Psalm, making it stand out from all others.  It is a picture of Christ as the beginning and the end. It is the last Hallel Psalm, and also contains the middle verse of the Bible: verse 8.

what-is-the-shortest

There are 1189 books in the Bible, 594 chapters before Psalm 118:8 and 594 after.  If you add 594+594 you get 1188, the chapter and verse of the middle verse in the Bible: “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

Psalm 118 is in the center of the Bible, and reflects the center of Jewish and Christian life. It looks a lot like the Hallel is a prophetic countdown, and the 7 year Tribulation begins in 2018.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.
Let Israel say,
“His faithful love endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say,
“His faithful love endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say,
“His faithful love endures forever.”

(Psalm 118:1-4)

As Christians, we believe that the Holy Bible is God’s perfect Word and that it is a testimony to Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven is God’s rule over the universe and also over humans who willfully acknowledge him as King. One day his Kingdom will come to earth, which the Bible describes as the personal and visible return of Jesus. This day is known as the Second Coming, the time when Jesus will establish his rule on the throne of David in Jerusalem.

Many Christians also believe that before the Second Coming there will be a dark seven year period called the Tribulation. They believe that in order to rescue his Bride from the horrors of the Tribulation, Jesus will gather all true believers to him. This is known as the futurist, pre-tribulation Rapture view. This view acknowledges God the Father’s sovereignty over the timing of the Rapture, Tribulation, and Second Coming.

Our goal is to give you a clear understanding of the Rapture, so that you are prepared!

I called to the Lord in distress;
the Lord answered me
and put me in a spacious place.
The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is my helper,
Therefore, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.

(Psalm 118:5-7)

The Ezekiel chapters 38-39 prophesy that Russia, along with Iran and several Arab and North African nations, will rally together in these last days and mount a massive military operation against the Nation of Israel. Ezekiel prophesies that a “hook in the jaw” will be placed in Russia’s mouth and she will be dragged into this war. This Ezekiel war is being prepared right now.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in nobles.

All the nations surrounded me;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.
They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.
They surrounded me like bees;
they were extinguished like a fire among thorns;
in the name of Yahweh I destroyed them.
You pushed me hard to make me fall,
but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my song;
He has become my salvation.

(Psalm 118:8-14)

We can already see the Ezekiel timetable moving into position, as the Syrian civil war draws to a close, and the Shiite nations join with Russia to turn into a threat to Israel. All the players are moving into position now:

Netanyahu: We are already moving to prevent an Iranian military foothold in Syria / Debka, January 29, 2018

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told reporters Monday evening, after his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow: ”Israel will not tolerate Iranian high-precision missiles [in Lebanon and Syria], and if need be, we will strike them in Lebanon.” As for an Iranian foothold in Syria, Netanyahu said that Israel is at a crossroads: “Is Iran establishing a military presence there or is this process being cut short? I said to Putin that if it is not, it will be up to us to do this. In actual fact, we are already taking action in this regard.”

What will happen next? Does the Bible give us clues?

There are shouts of joy and victory
in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly!
The Lord’s right hand is raised.
The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly!”
I will not die, but I will live
and proclaim what the Lord has done.
The Lord disciplined me severely
but did not give me over to death.

(Psalm 118:15-18)

The Bible describes the destruction of Israel’s enemies as total and complete. Workers will need to spend seven years just to clean the fields of bodies and weapons:

Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years(Ezekiel 39:9)

dry-bones

Many readers miss the fact that these seven years are the Tribulation years, and are a clue as to the timing and sequence of the End Times.

Psalm 118 describes the people entering the temple on the “Day of the Lord”:

EasternGate

Open the gates of righteousness for me;
I will enter through them
and give thanks to the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord;
the righteous will enter through it.
I will give thanks to You
because You have answered me
and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This came from the Lord;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

(Psalm 118:19-24)

2018 promises to be a year of new beginnings, and a year of fulfillment of many Biblical promises. This year could be the year the Lord fulfills His promise to make all things new.

A new Temple for the Jewish people, and our Rapture to New Jerusalem!

all-things-new

Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”
(Revelation 21:5)

What “new” is included in His promise?

Our salvation as a new creation:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

.
new-creation

Our new spiritual bodies:
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
(Philippians 3:20-21)

And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. (1 Corinthians 15:49)

.

New heavens and a new earth:
For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
      And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.
(Isaiah 65:17)

.

New Jerusalem:
Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:2-4)

And so, even with all the troubles we are experiencing with the trauma of these End Times, we can look forward to our Transfiguration into a new, eternal life as the Body in the Lord’s kingdom! We will rule the Universe with Christ!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)
