Who was the historical Jezebel?

Jezebel in the Bible was a princess. According to I Kings 16:31, she was the daughter of the Phoenician King Ethbaal. Both she and her father reference Baal in their names, indicating devote idol worship.

As such, Ahab, King of Israel, should have run and run hard from any kind of alliance or relationship with her… but he didn’t. King Ahab married Jezebel and joined his new wife in her pursuit of false gods.

Unfortunately, the story of Jezebel in the Bible gets much worse. In I Kings 18-21, she uses her position and influence to murder, steal, and persecute the prophets of God. Some say she used her femininity to connive, convince, and pretty much get her way.

What we do know is that yes, Jezebel in the Bible wreaked havoc in the nation of Israel, but ultimately was no match for God. He decreed judgement on her and she died by being betrayed. Two men threw Jezebel out a window where she was trampled on by horses and eaten by dogs.

Jezebel was the incarnation of Canaanite cultic and political practices, detested by Israelite prophets and loyalists. Through the centuries, the name Jezebel came to be associated with false prophets.

Her comments came as Israel has scaled up its bombing campaign in the past week. Among Democrats in Congress, attitudes toward Israel have grown more skeptical as the party base expresses concern about Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians, and several high-profile progressive lawmakers including Ms. Tlaib have become increasingly vocal about criticizing Mr. Biden for his stance.

Representative Ayanna Pressley questions US aid to Israel ‘that is used to demolish Palestinian homes’ / Boston Globe, May 14, 2021

Likening the condition of Palestinians to Black Americans protesting police violence, she suggested the US should consider conditioning aid to the country, questioning, “if our budgets are a statement of our values, what do we value? Whose lives do we value?”

“We cannot stand idly and complicitly by and allow the occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people to continue,” Pressley said. “I am committed to ensuring that our government does not fund state violence in any form, anywhere… The question at hand is should our taxpayer dollars create conditions for justice, healing and repair, or should those dollars create conditions for oppression and apartheid?”

Pressley’s speech drew attention from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, an organization she has had a positive working relationship with in recent years.

“We agree with Representative Pressley that everyone deserves to live free from fear and to know peace, and we are troubled that her speech did not reflect a belief that these conditions apply to Israeli citizens being indiscriminately targeted by rocket fire from a US-recognized terrorist organization,” JCRC said in a statement to the Globe.

Ilhan Omar claims Israeli forces ‘attacked’ Palestinians after police clash with demonstrators / Fox News, May 21, 2021

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., claimed that Israeli police “attacked” Palestinians in Jerusalem on Friday, during clashes with demonstrators who reportedly had thrown Molotov cocktails at officers outside a holy site.

The firebrand “Squad” member tweeted that Palestinians were being assaulted at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during prayers by the Israeli police.

“Palestinians are being attacked in their holy site during Friday prayers,” Omar tweeted. “This level of indignity, injustice and cruelty is unacceptable.”

“Israel’s military functions with impunity because the world let’s it,” she added. “This has to change.”

What Omar left out was that the clash actually happened after Friday prayers at the Abrahamic holy site and that young Palestinian demonstrators reportedly provoked a law enforcement response by throwing rocks and Molotov bombs at police officers.

Omar also falsely identified the Israeli police forces responding to the makeshift incendiary grenades as being members of Israel’s military.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Goes After Biden For Saying Israel ‘Has A Right To Defend Itself’ / Daily Caller, May 13, 2021

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized President Joe Biden Wednesday for saying that Israel “has a right to defend itself” amid a wave of violence between Israel and Gaza.

The congresswoman claimed that Israel started the violence, and seemed to refer to the apartment dispute in Sheikh Jarrah and Israeli actions to disperse a violent riot on the Al-Aqsa Mosque as some of the main causes.
“Blanket statements like these w/ little context or acknowledgement of what precipitated this cycle of violence – namely the expulsions of Palestinians and attacks on Al Aqsa – dehumanize Palestinians & imply the US will look the other way at human rights violations. It’s wrong,” the congresswoman claimed.

Biden spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Wednesday to discuss the rocket attacks between Israel and Hamas. Biden emphasized his support for Israel and said the nation has a “right to defend itself,” according to a White House statement on the call.

What is the Jezebel Spirit?

There are two incidents in the life of Jezebel that characterize her and may define what is meant by the “Jezebel spirit.” One trait is her obsessive passion for domineering and controlling others, especially in the spiritual realm. When she became queen, she began a relentless campaign to rid Israel of all evidences of Yahweh worship. She ordered the extermination of all the prophets of the Lord and replaced their altars with those of Baal. Her strongest enemy was Elijah, who demanded a contest on Mount Carmel between the powers of Israel’s God and the powers of Jezebel and the priests of Baal. Of course, God won, but despite hearing of the miraculous powers of the Lord, Jezebel refused to repent and swore on her gods that she would pursue Elijah relentlessly and take his life. Her stubborn refusal to see and submit to the power of the living God would lead her to a hideous end.

The second incident involves a righteous man named Naboth who refused to sell to Ahab land adjoining the palace, rightly declaring that to sell his inheritance would be against the Lord’s command. While Ahab sulked and fumed on his bed, Jezebel taunted and ridiculed him for his weakness, then proceeded to have the innocent Naboth framed and stoned to death. Naboth’s sons were also stoned to death, so there would be no heirs, and the land would revert to the possession of the king. Such a single-minded determination to have one’s way, no matter who is destroyed in the process, is a characteristic of the Jezebel spirit.

Most of what is known about Baal and the Canaanite religion is derived from a series of tablets discovered at Ras Shamra. The principal god was El, but the jurisdiction over rainfall and fertility was delegated to Baal, or Hadad. Other important deities included Resheph, lord of plague and the nether world; Kothar, the divine craftsman; Asherah, consort of El; and Astarte, goddess of fertility.

Because the Canaanite religion was a fertility religion, ritual prostitution of both males and females was a common feature of worship.

Temple prostitution is one of the major things Judaism detested about paganism, and the Torah went to great lengths to de-sexualize religion and religious rites. For example, Deuteronomy 23:18 states: Do not bring a female prostitute’s wages or a male prostitute’s earnings into the house of the Lord your God to fulfill any vow, because both are detestable to the Lord your God.

Canaanite religion practiced ritualized child sacrifice. Kleitarchos, a Greek historian, wrote:

“Whenever they seek to obtain some great favor, they vow one of their children, burning it as a sacrifice to the deity, if they are especially eager to gain success. There stands in their midst a bronze statue of Ba’al, its hands extended over a bronze brazier, the flames of which engulf the child. When the flames fall upon the body, the limbs contract and the open mouth seems almost to be laughing, until the contracted body slips quietly into the brazier.”

Diodorus, a third-century BCE Greek historian, paints a similar picture:

“There was in their city a bronze image of Kronos (Ba’al), extending its hands, palms up and sloping toward the ground, so that each of the children when placed thereon rolled down and fell into a sort of gaping pit filled with fire.”

Afterwards, the bones and ashes would be carefully scraped out of the fire pit, sealed in a clay pot, and buried, and a stela (burial stone) would be placed on top, inscribed with the vow to the god or goddess in return for a favor.

The Israelites would have been tempted to practice human sacrifice themselves if the Canaanite religion had been allowed to co-exist. In fact, the some Jews were either tempted, or did in fact practice it. According to Hebrew history, the Hebrews regularly abandoned the Yahweh religion for local cults, particularly Canaanite cults. The Canaanite religion focused on the god Baal, and the Hebrews frequently disassembled their Yahweh altars and built Baal altars:

Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Judah’s King Asa; Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria 22 years. But Ahab son of Omri did what was evil in the Lord’s sight more than all who were before him. Then, as if following the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat were a trivial matter, he married Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he had built in Samaria. Ahab also made an Asherah pole. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him. (1 Kings 16:29-33)

By the early 20th century, the Jezebel spirit was also associated with fallen or abandoned women. In Christian lore, a comparison to Jezebel suggested that a person was a pagan or an apostate masquerading as a servant of God. By manipulation and seduction, she misled the saints of God into sins of idolatry and sexual immorality. In particular, Christians associated Jezebel with promiscuity. The cosmetics which Jezebel applied before her death also led some Christians to associate makeup with vice. In modern usage, the name of Jezebel is sometimes used as a synonym for sexually promiscuous or controlling women.

Agenda 2030), Medicare for all, tuition-free colleges, limits to the Second Amendment, the dissolution of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) along with open borders, murder of unborn babies up to and after birth, and a 70% tax rate for those who earn $10 million or more. Like her jihadi Jane sisters, she is anti-Israel/anti-Jew and has defended and praised the Islamist activist Linda Sarsour.

To understand the fundamental differences between left-wing progressive socialism and right-wing conservatism ideologies is to realize that everything centers around their beliefs. The political right generally believe that Judeo-Christian doctrine, such as the 10 Commandments, should play a role in government. According to them, the government should abide by the Bible when it comes to social issues like abortion and gay marriage.

A significant portion on the left identify themselves as atheist or agnostic. People on the left strongly believe in a secular government and the separation of church and state.

This core difference between Christian and atheist directly effects what they are for and against:

Because socialism is a fight against basic human nature, it requires brute force in the attempt to reach its goals.

People on the right believe that the best outcome for society is achieved when individual rights and civil liberties are paramount and the role — and especially the power — of the government is minimized.

The best warning about socialism comes from Aesop, who said, “Those who voluntarily put power into the hands of a tyrant … must not wonder if it be at last turned against themselves.”

Stalin’s campaign didn’t mention that he would enact policies that would lead to the slaughter of 62 million people in the Soviet Union between 1917 to 1987.

Mao Zedong didn’t mention that his People’s Republic of China would engage in brutal acts that would lead to the loss of 76 million lives at the hands of the government from 1949 to 1987.

When a society turns against the Lord and toward Utopian socialist fantasies, that nation is doomed.

The Judgement of the Jezebels

Their destruction is only a matter of time. Like Sodom and Gomorrah, the United States is reaching that critical point now.

I searched for a man among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it, but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30)

Not long ago America was a beacon of hope to the world. To our shame, through the Progressive Democratic Party, the United States of America has embraced the globalist agenda over the fundamental Christian values that made us leader among nations.

Today our country is a hollow shell of the Founding Father’s vision. Divinely endowed natural rights for all citizens are now being defined as arbitrary and subordinate to a contrived specter of an imaginary world community – governed by the few – so the many can serve those who set the rules.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki described President Biden as a “devout Catholic” after being asked about his stances on taxpayer funding for abortion. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who attended mass with Biden on Wednesday, has described herself as a “devout practicing Catholic,” identifying with what is perhaps the largest pro-life organization in the world.

One “conspiracy theory” that many conservative Christians have is that the radical Left in the United States are plotting to erase America’s borders, so that it is no longer a country, that they want to eliminate Christianity from American life, and that they want America to be governed by the United Nations instead of the Constitution.

Basically, they believe that the Left wants to turn America into a socialist Third World country.

The Scriptures are clear that civil government is an institution and process that God the Creator has given to mankind. The Constitution provides “We the People” with a representative body of government. Where are the people called to intercede on behalf of their neighbors, especially those in authority?

We must pray for forgiveness and for our land to be healed! It is time to wake up and get spiritually ready.

The Lord tells us:

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Join us in praying for this country, and for a great harvest of souls. As “watchmen on the wall,” we believe that the time before the Rapture and the Tribulation is very short.

The “birth pains” of the world are building and converging towards an unprecedented climax. There is an upcoming “delivery date” for the Rapture, known only to the Lord.
